UK’s First Minecraft Expo Starts Today

The 2013 Minecraft Expo begins in earnest today. The event, which is hosted by Insomnia 49 in Telford, will take place from 23 to 26 August and offers attractions such as free-to-enter Minecraft tournaments, talks, exhibitions and presentations. Considering the clamour for MineCon to be hosted in the UK, the Minecraft Expo is expected to go some way in appeasing Minecraft fans and enthusiasts based in the United Kingdom.

Participants of the event can also expect to be part of creative building challenges, costume competitions, a Minecraft Lounge and special opportunities to mingle with some of the most popular Minecraft gamers on the Internet (e.g. YouTube) such as Mindcrack, The NoxCrew, Yogscast and Hat Films.

According to event organiser Multiplay CEO Craig Feltcher, “each time we host an Insomnia event, the community amazes us with its passion, making each event bigger and better than the last.” He added, “with the runaway success of Minecraft, we’ve answered the call from devoted fans by creating the UK’s first Minecraft Expo, and we can think of no better place to host it, than the UK’s biggest gaming festival.”

The Insomnia event hosts a number of eSports tournaments, with organisers reserving over 3,000 spaces for ‘bring your own PC and Console’ tickets. Overall, about 15,000 visitors are expected to attend, with over two million watching video streaming of the eSports events directly on the official Website.
